The City of Edmonton uses Intergraph

The city of Edmonton reorganized its entire IT infrastructure in 1997 with the goals to merge all IT activities into one branch and to search for and reduce redundant applications. Over 300 applications were identified, of which 85 were land based. City managers were particularly concerned with the number of redundant land-based solutions because an efficient data core of land use information is central for effective citywide asset management.

Already well-grounded in GIS and Intergraph’s Modular GIS Environment (MGE) technology, the issue for the city was how to improve the use and efficiency of its land applications.

All implemented electronic solutions since 1978 were developed and maintained within individual city departments, and officials realized city services could improve if personnel could access and share data from a reliable, central data pool.
